2005 Lancer Starting Issues - viper alarm

    Hi all,

Just got back into town today.

My brother just bought a new car a few weeks ago and him and my dad are in the process of getting the safety items done.

The car started and ran fine when they bought it, but my dad went to move it last week and it will not start. Zero cranking or any attemp for the car to do anything.

The battery is good, and when you jumper wire the starter it turns over fine.

I am quite busy and haven't even started to do much reading or troubleshooting.

First guess I have is that a main or start relay decided to shit the bed... or there is wiring issues with the viper alarm or a special procedure we dont know about.

Wondering if there is anyone on the site with car alarm electrical experience/relay testing?

I could dig into it by myself but I am asking for a hand to save me some time since I have lots on the go right now.

If there is someone free tomorrow to help me out and has a good knowledge of electrical witchcraft, let me know!

    Thanks
    ALL THE HONDAS!!!

Standard or automatic? Wife's hoondai Santa Fe was not starting unless u moved shifter from reverse to neutral to drive while holding key.. Turned out to be a inhibitor switch/neutral safety switch/ range indicator switch .. Not sure if you would have something similar, something to try

Is there a way for him to disconnect the alarm and then try to start the car? I'm assuming not since that would defeat the purpose lol

Re: 2005 Lancer Starting Issues - viper alarm

Manual car, I checked the clutch switch. working fine @ the switch, but it may be wiring more up stream.

Worst case I spend a day ripping out the alarm system and re-attach all the stock wiring, but it may just end up being a start relay or something.

Only patience I have for this stuff is when its my own, almost want to tell my dad to trailer it to a shop with a good electrical guy.

Re: 2005 Lancer Starting Issues - viper alarm

You should be able to pull the fuses to the alarm/state to disconnect from the car. They will be on the harness to the alarm under the drivers side of the dash. But since your not seeing a security light I can't be sure if that is what will fix it. Technically the keys should always work. Unless they lost programming.
    Steps that should be tried.
If the first key doesnt work try the spare key. If that doesnt work, hold a key by the ignition tumbler and try to remote start.
Let me know how it goes. If it ran when you got it then it's probably something simple. If you want to trailer it to my shop (The Power Centre) I can get one of my guys take a look for you on Tuesday.

Re: 2005 Lancer Starting Issues - viper alarm

Three Things to do, check the alarm functionality by arming and disarming it using the remote, if still not starting after that attempting to put the viper unit into its VALET/OFF mode using the switch under/near/around the driver kick panel, Or removing the unit completely and repairing the starter kill loop that would/could/should have been installed which may be inhibiting your starter signal from getting to the right place.

    ^ Thanks Eddie!

Turned about to be the alarm box itself, had bad relays.

Removed the entire system and returned it to stock.

I did some research afterwards its a common problem with older vipers, they will just stop working leaving people stranded. Of course it is old gear and things just wear out.
