    EJ257 Rebuild questions

Ive been throwing the idea of pulling the scooby's motor and rebuilding it. It's getting pretty high mileage on it and i know they are notorious for destroying ringlands and spinning rod bearings. I'm wondering what the best route to go would be? Should I pull it just my block get it machined, buy pistons, rods etc. Should i buy an new OEM block start from scratch and maybe save on machining costs. OR Should I just do it the lazy(safer) way and buy a prebuilt shortblock from Crawford or some other engine builder

If someone could point me in the right direction I'de really appreciate it. I haven't rebuilt a motor since auto class in highschool haha ( well one that has more than one cylinder anyways).

I know I'm going to need pistons, rods, bearings, gaskets, head studs and i;m sure there is more I just can't think of right now.

I have no idea what machining costs or where to get it done.

Open to part recommendations I have a few companies that I like and have a good reputation but there is probably some I don't know about.

Anyways thanks in advance and feel free to flame my stupid ideas

I would love to do a flex fuel build with it eventually. I don't want to do anything to crazy. Just the normal bigger turbo, injectors, front mount. Maybe get 400 at the wheels and I would be happy. And still reliable enough to be daily ish driver

Ok then I'd use your block and a set of wiseco pistons(not the HD ones) and a set of shitty eagle h beams. When you buy head studs go with the regular ones not the L19's

K that sounds easy enough. What would use for rod and main bearings? I guess i'de have to pull it before I can buy pistons just in case it needs to be bored out right?

Yep that's right, rip it down before you order parts. As for bearings....well acl has gone out of business so if you can find a set of acl race bearings go with them if not you'll have to go with the king race bearings....I put the king race bearings in my motor because I couldn't get the acl's and I'm not fully pumped about it.
