    2011 Volkswagen Touareg service options

I know we have a number of vw guys here so looking for an opinion on local vw dealer repair work vs. Other.

I no longer need the towing power and it is mostly out of warranty and am wondering if there are cheaper good local places that would be good for this type of vehicle work.

I currently need a left lower ball joint replaced. $772.82 plus tax and alignment $119.95 plus tax, plus labour for any adjustments.

    Any thoughts?

I'd shop around for the balljoint (if I wasn't changing it myself) and get the alignment at VW.

Order the balljoint off Rock Auto, change it yourself and get the alignment at Minute Muffler or Midas for $80.

So I quoted 3 shops and the one oem part is very expensive as u need to get the whole arm. The after market is the same price but with a 3 yr warranty.
The independent quote was $10 cheaper and another dealer was about 100$ cheaper.
I will stick with the dealer.

Here's the service manual if you wish to attempt it on your own. Looks like you should be able to rent the generic tools at Canadian Tire.

Local VW Dealership does good work. I'd get the alignment from them since they know what they are doing with VWs. Most places can only adjust toe on my MK4s...
